Modern Arrangement: Woven Design

This design consists of manipulating foliage, weaving is a great statement for any arrangement and creates a more edgier depth to the piece.

Inspiration

Fig 1, Berghe M,V Fluer Creatif Spring 2013

Fig 1 - This arrangement has created a weave that sits on top of an asymmetric vase. This contrasts and displays a harmonic balance. The weave is hidden under vivid flowers and creates a modern look

Fig 2, Berghe M,V Fluer Creatif  winter 2013

Fig 2 - This design is large and would create a wonderful statement on a long table. The grass used in this design flows and hangs elegantly of its mechanics. The tone of the work feels gloomy and sad, i would of chosen more vivid foliage that would contrast with the purple vandas

Development

Original sketch 8/05/2014
For my design i will use anthiuriums in a deep green, these flowers are very curvy and rounded, these flowers will contrast well with a hard mesh. With the mesh i will weave bear grass through to hide the container.

step one 8/05/2014
Step one - Prep oasis and mould to container. For the mesh i designed an aysemetric curved design that would complement the anthiuriums and add more depth to the design.

Step Two - Cut the bear grass to size and weave throughout the copper mesh.
Step Two 8/05/2014

The flower composition is important within this design and spacing is crucial for the balance.

Overall i was very happy with this design and the flower composition looks attractive over the weave detailing

Modern Arrangement: Cardboard Design

Innovative, unique design that brings a new take on recyclable resources. This style would look impressive at a corporate event or commercial outlet

Fig.1 - This design is based on the contrast between soft and strong. The flowers are perfectly blended and emphasise growth.

Sluis,M,V,D Creativity With Flowers 10/04/14

Fig.2 - This design is alot more textured to Sluis other arrangement. Its style flows and is relaxed by its choice of delicate flowers.

Bruyne D,T Creativity With Flowers 10/04/14

Fig.3 - Here the paper claims all attention. The roughness of the torn paper forms a striking contrast with the softness of the flowers.

My Design

Final Design 10/04/2014
For the cardboard design i grouped smaller and larger wheels of cardboard to create a layered effect. I think this creates depth and a contemporary twist to the Lily's
Final Design 10/04/2014

Final Design 10/04/2014
The closed bud of the lily give it a mono tonal pallet with the greens reflecting the Eco theme.
Final Design 10/04/2014

Final Design 10/04/2014
The container i used was recycled and gives it a modern touch. I would use this container for a restaurant commission.

The Development

Constructing this arrangement was a long process due to the manipulation of the cardboard. To create the effect i layered different heights of cardboard and hot glued together.

Step one, 10/04/2014

Step Two 10/04/2014

Simply using corrugated cardboard, roll into cylinders and hot gluing in sections to secure your shape. To create different heights cut the cardboard a random widths.

To prep the container holding your arrangement mould oasis foam to fit. Fill to the brim making sure it doesn't overflow. If it overflows the cardboard will become soggy ruining the overall design.
Step Three 10/04/2014
Step Three 10/04/2014

To create height in your design insert long twigs which secures both the Lily's and the cardboard to the design.

Fan Arrangement 03/04/2014

Fan Arrangement

The idea of the fan arrangement is to create sheer opulence and decadence to room. Stripping the leaves off the stems creates this bold positive space that balances with the flowers at the top. This style would look impressive at a corporate event or commercial outlet.

Fig.1 - Clear and strong but also elegant. The parallel lines and spirals bring in movement that make it surprising.  Spirals are a great decorative feature creates a graceful atmosphere.

Fig 2 - Circle rounded shape. light delicate tones creates a soft romantic feel. Precise arrangement to enhance its delicate shape. The flowers chosen are overly soft and need a more sharper edge.

Development
Original Sketch 03/04/2014

Craspedia, Chins, Alstomeria, Celosia, Bear grass

My original plan was to arrange the shape in a thin linear line and divide the colours in a symmetrical sequence.
There would be no wires or accessories used, to keep it more natural

Step one 03/04/2014
Technique notes 03/04/2014
Choose a suitable container/vase for the design. Preferably a opaque so the oasis is hidden. Cut oasis to fit vase and soak.
 Technique
Using these notes, I started constructed the arrangement starting with dogwood that's gives it that original line the flowers will follow.

Final Design 03/04/2014

Wish my vase wasn't discoloured by tape

03/04/2014
The celosia was much heavier than first expected. The overall focus of the design is much larger than expected compared to my sketch.

03/04/2014
Purple wire create an electrical current through the flowers.

Posy Design 03/04/2014

Funeral Posy

A posy is one of the smaller tributes you can give to a love one or can be displayed on grave stones. A lot can be presented in a posy and can be based on chosen themes such as
Favourite colour or flower of the deceased. Oasis foam has also made it easier to create eye catching designs more simpler.

Inspiration

Fig 1. gingerlilyflorists.co.uk 04/04/2014
 Fig 1 -
This naturalistic piece is beautiful and compact. Its tightness brings mystery as the roses are slightly hidden by the foliage. The twigs and rope wrap the design and add hard texture compared to the soft petals of the rose. Colour are kept almost monotonal and look pleasing with the green shades.

Fig 2 gingerlilyflorists.co.uk 04/04/2014

Fig.2 -
This posy based on a cushion base looks overall delicate with the diverse amount of flowers and foliage. the border surrounding the design is loose and takes to much attention away from the centre. The colours are fresh and natural. The design to me looks messy as the composition isn't balance.

Fig 3. helensburghflowershop.co.uk 04/04/2014

Fig. 3 -

This is a very naturalistic design. Its texture and shape is very dramatic and is calmed through the poetic lines of the callas. The tones are fresh and natural.

Posy Design 03/04/2014
Original Sketch 03/04/2014

For the posy firstly prep the oasis, smoothing out the edges and wetting the foam.
For my design I have glue-gunned wire to attach to my bark. This helps the bark sit in a more elevated position. With in the gaps I have pinned moss. I think this creates a more natural positioning within the design.
From my original sketch I had the centre covered in roses but because of the bold strong colour from the petals I decided to create a linear line that separates both sides. During the construction the left finished side was strong and translating that to the other side I thought would take away the focal roses. For the other side I just pinned moss down and used sticks to create more height.
Overall the design is strong and bold but the choice of flowers creates an artificial feel rather than a natural style I was hoping for.

Free Standing Arrangement

Physical Balance is crucial for this design, and support is crucial. Using the correct materials and weights is most important for this design to work.

Fig2(Akker,P,V) Floral Composition 27/03/2014

Inspiration and Ideas
Pim Vander Akker - Fig 1 Technically successful. All flowers and materials are evenly spaced. Material used collects and creates a rustic raw approach to modern design.
Fig 2 Reminds me of Noah's ark, the construction of this design is very complex, the overall finish is strong and unusual.  The shape is purposefully slanted but i think a more exaggerated lean is wanted.

Fleur Creatif - home edition
The design shows shows that this type of design can be used at any scale, the workmanship within this arrangement is simplistic but very effective.

Free Standing Structure 27/03/2014
 Development
Within my sketch that i drew first i have decided to place my orchids to the top of the desgn surrounded by the craspedia. I am hoping for the design to alter as i construct.

To begin development you must construct a snake grass base. To create this base attach snake grass together with cocktail sticks. Other sticks could be used like porcupine needles.
To make the sticks more attractive tidy up by spinning wool around each stick.
Ensure the base is upright and supported.
All stick must interlink for the design to work. Using more than one foliage can add great texture, i have also used twigs

For the next and final step you need floral adhesive glue/ tie wrap or wire of your desired choice.

lower close up 27/03/2014
Higher Close up 27/03/2014
Over all i am very impressed with my final design. event though it doesn't look like my sketch, i have kept a simple asymmetric line from the top to bottom. I have tried to keep the spacing even but have lost this spacing using the craspedia. I am not keen on the chins on my design, if i could re do this design i would keep minimal types of flowers as it hides the free standing base. The contrasting black medallino sticks compliment the bright flush colours. The sticks are manipulated to resemble the orchids smooth rounded shape and create a curvature overall to my design.
