Assesment One - Part Two

Overall as the arrangement was larger than expected i didnt budget well for the size of the copper mesh collum. I spent a little more on the amount of anthiuriums i will use and added testubes as the stems of the anthiuriums were not long enough to stand in the posy.

Inspiration

My inspiration came from an arrangement i have constructed in the past for a Birmingham conference. I wanted to enlarge and enhance the anthiurium shape and boldness.

Development

Step One 15/05/2014

Step One - Prep the oasis posy soaking in water and smoothing the sides, Copper wire needs to be rolled to a wide diameter so flowers can fit comfortably in, if height is required simple roll many wire mesh cylinders and fix together by lodging secure. Make sure your workmanship is tidy and neat. All sharp edges should be removed.
Neatly place the wire cylinder into the oasis, you should not need to secure the base as the oasis is a good enough base.

Step Two 15/05/2014

Step Two - Secondly moss the posy covering the oasis, pining with moss pins, ensure all gaps are filled including in the center of the design.
Step Three - To cover the foam edging use a creative border, i have chosen bark as it matches with the venues bar. you could use fabric or a ribbon design. For the bark i hot glued wires so the bark would easily slot into the oasis.

Finished Bordered Edge 15/05/2014
Wire test tubes onto the mesh cylinder, ensuring the tubes are equally apart to ensure balance and harmony around the design.
Cut the anthiurium stems to the correct size so they don't wobble.
Final design in venue sketch

This sketch was planned before the developent it explains the scale of the design in the venue. It will sit at the end of the bar.

The base i used Kermit and more bark to give more texture. The kermits were a good choice for the bottom as the circular shape helps contrast with the mesh.

Overall the impact of the design was exactly as i wanted it to be ... bold, large, original. The antiuriums have a good flow around the cylinder as i took care to space the test tubes and do forward planning.
The hint of gold from the wire helps bring out the colour of the anthiurium and constrast with shapes.

Venue

Arrangement in Venue

Overall in the room in general it stand out. The scale of the arrangement is in proportion to the bar and the white helps bring out the chalk written on the blackboard.

Close up

It took 30 mins to set up in the bar. Overall Nicola the bar owner was happy with the design and was willing to pays the rate fee rather than the hourly fee. She also commented that the design was "strong and unique"
